Romeo and Juliet

Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet belong to two Veronese families whose longstanding feud casts a shadow over the lives of those around them. When they meet by chance, they fall in love without yet realizing how deeply their lives are bound up in the conflict between their families. Recognizing that their feelings defy the hatred in which they were raised, Romeo and Juliet decide to keep their love a secret, hoping to find happiness of their own against the wishes of those around them. Yet in a world where loyalty to one’s family demands hostility toward the very person one loves, there is no easy way forward. Against a backdrop of bitter rivalry and hasty decisions, their story becomes a tragedy about the cost of hatred, the fragility of human life, and the right to choose whom to love, even when society makes that choice a source of suffering.
